Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a term used to describe a variety of conditions that occur when there is compression, irritation, or injury to the nerves or blood vessels (arteries and veins) that pass through the thoracic outlet. This area, located between the collarbone (clavicle) and the first rib, is a narrow passageway through which vital neural and vascular structures travel from the neck to the arm.
